Play Therapy

According to the Association of Play Therapy, “child play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the “language” of the child – play.” Play therapy is practiced by licensed mental health professionals who therapeutically use play to help their clients, most often children ages three to twelve years, to better express themselves and resolve their problems. The therapist works to foster a safe relationship between the therapist and client so that the child may freely and naturally express their emotions, express themselves, process their life events, learn and develop coping skills, and more! Through play therapy, the child is given a developmentally appropriate way to receive support in develop coping skills, growing in responsibility, and decision-making skills.

Adolescents

Adolescents of all ages constantly face increasing challenges and stresses in their daily lives. Poor mental health in adolescents can impact many areas of ones life, such as school, grades, decision making, and one’s overall health.  Often left untreated, these mental health issues can often lead into other health and behavioral risks such as depression, chronic stress, low self-esteem, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and relational difficulties. Being an adolescent can be hard, but it should not be hopeless. Through the process of therapy, adolescents can receive the support they need in helping them face the many hardships they encounter. Beginning at age 13, and sometimes lasting as late as age 26, adolescence undergo and extended period of physical and mental changes. These things are all important factors to consider in treating adolescents clients. The therapeutic process seeks to support adolescent as they process their feelings, thoughts and behaviors. This can look different for each adolescent client, but can draw from many different approaches including traditional talk therapy, expressive art therapy, group therapy, and more. Through this therapeutic process, adolescent can continue to grow and develop healthy coping skills, social skills, and emotional well being in order for their overall wellbeing to continue to improve.


Adults

In providing individual psychotherapy, each Aspire therapists seeks to provide a safe, caring, and confidential environment for their clients. Through this process, the therapeutic relationship and various therapeutic techniques are used to explore client's feelings, beliefs, and behaviors. Often adults benefit from individual therapy by receiving support in helping them work through past memories, better understand themselves, others, setting personal goals, and work toward desired change.  Many adults seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges, childhood trauma, facing mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety, or seeking personal growth.
